Raw Land to Homestead Build Intro
I am going to document our process of finding, planning, designing, and building our home from a raw piece of land in the hopes to pass along the information I’ve gathered to help with your build. Having an understanding of the process, whether you will do it yourself or hire someone, will ensure things progress smoothly and according to your vision of the property and build.
When I say raw land, it means a piece of land with no infrastructure or utilities. We would be responsible for setting up electric on the property, drilling a well, and installing a septic system for sewage. We did not have the option to hook into town water or sewer. This is not always the case but is something to consider when searching for land.
This blog will follow our process of taking 3.67 acres of cleared, flat, raw land and developing it into a homestead with the first build being a 5000sf monitor barn which will have a 2500sf first floor shop, 1800sf second floor living quarters, and 700sf of covered storage. This build will be referred to as Homestead Carpentry Co. Headquarters or HCCHQ. We will simultaneously be tackling other projects on the homestead such as an orchard, chickens, bees, and more. This will mainly focus on the development of the property as it pertains to the HCCHQ build.
It will be a mix of step by step guide along with some anecdotal stories about why we decided on certain things. Thanks for following along. I hope you are able to take something away from this to improve your build and make more informed decisions.
